BI Governance Design and Reviews

"We define BI Governance as the organisation and process through which the vision for BI is approved, the environment for the vision to be realised is created, progress against plan is monitored and where accountability for delivering a return on investment is ultimately vested."

"Over 60% of our assignments to date have identified significant weaknesses in some areas of BI Governance. Evidence points to a strong correlation between best practice BI Governance and the overall success of the business."

We will work with you to review, measure and, where appropriate, modify your BI Governance process. We will utilise the Governance tools within BI Exploitation Best Practice to analyse and measure where the strengths and weaknesses in your current infrastructure and processes lie, propose changes and then help you implement them.

We aim to help you answer the following questions:

  • What is our current process?
  • What are its strengths and weaknesses?
  • How do we compare against best practice Governance Model?
  • How do we benchmark in this area?
  • Where are the gaps in our processes?
  • Is the process sufficiently flexible and agile?
  • Is there clear ownership and accountability for BI Governance?
  • Looking forward, what are the key risks we should be considering?
  • What are the key areas we should be focusing on?
  • What changes should we be making?
  • What are the priorities?
  • How do we socialise the changes proposed?
  • The deliverables will be in a business language and employ tools to quickly and clearly communicate the issues, implications and needs to key decision makers.

Recommendations may result in both minor and major changes. The major changes may involve significant cross-functional co-operation and some re-structuring. Some clients have chosen to confine the scope of their initial effort to a geography, division or BI service to enable a quick win and get a feel for the extent of the broader challenges they face.
